Break on Impact 2013 | Cross-Cultural Exploration, Service & Learning

Every spring break, members of the Covenant community participate in Break on Impact, spreading across the globe to serve and learn about cross-cultural ministries.

WHAT: Break on Impact started over a decade ago as an endeavor to promote missions by helping students be able to dedicate their spring break to learning about cross-cultural ministry and serving in one of many locales.

WHO: Teams consist of Covenant students, faculty, and staff members.

WHERE: These teams will go to Clarkston, Georgia; London, England; and the Yakama Indian Reservation in Washington state.

HOW: All teams will partner with ongoing ministries, by invitation from the host ministry, in such a way that submits to the leadership of the local workers and that contributes to and encourages their ongoing work.

WHY: Break on Impact trips are designed as learning experiences in which participants are challenged to see God’s heart for all nations and his call for his people to participate in the expansion of his kingdom as members of the global church.

PRAY: Please pray for hearts that are focused on the triune God and serving him, for opportunities to share the gospel in word and deed, for safety in travel and throughout the week, and for humble interactions with each other and those they work alongside.

Clarkston, Georgia
Clarkston, Georgia, has been a haven for refugees since the 1990s. These refugees, however, often struggle to make their way in a new country with little or no connections. Partnering with World Relief and Mission to the World, this team of Covenant students hopes to better understand the challenges refugees face during the resettlement process and to learn how the church can be the hands and feet of Christ in welcoming strangers to our country. The trip will involve worship with a church plant in the refugee community, several days of entering into the experience of a refugee family, and opportunities to engage in service with the community. Trip leaders: Hannah Brown, Jessica Chen, and Sandy Shaw.

London, England
With over 300 languages spoken and citizens and immigrants from a myriad of ethnic backgrounds, London is among the most diverse cities in the world. The team from Covenant will be partnering with a group that has been working in London since 1990, with a particular focus on evangelism and church planting in the South Asian community. In addition to learning about the different cultures and religions of the communities of Southall and Harrow, the team will be active in engaging in conversation on the street and visiting door to door to help the local church make connections in the community. Trip leaders: Ron Brown and Henry Krabbendam.

Yakama Indian Reservation
This team will work with Sacred Road Ministries on the Yakama Indian Reservation in Eastern Washington. They desire to lovingly respond to the physical, emotional, and social needs of the Yakama in order to address their deeper spiritual need. This team will be assisting Sacred Road by reaching out to the children of the Reservation by leading afternoon Bible clubs and participating in a variety of work projects on homes needing repair. Trip leaders: Brandon Kreuze and Amy Smith.

2013-2014 Room and Schedule Deposit Reminder

We want to remind you of the $300 room and schedule deposit for the fall 2013 semester that is required to be paid by returning students prior to pre-registration in March. We have also sent a reminder to students, instructing them that payment can be made online or in the accounting office by specifically noting this payment is a “Deposit for fall 2013.” This deposit will be credited towards your son's or daughter's fall 2013 charges for tuition, room, etc.

If your child has a credit balance on their account, an email from their Covenant email account or a note with their signature is required to request that money be applied as a deposit for the fall. A deposit hold is placed on all student accounts until the deposit has been paid; holds are released at the end of each day, so we encourage students to pay their deposits at least one day before they are eligible to pre-register for fall 2013. The deposit can be paid even if the student has an outstanding balance for the current term, and the deposit is refundable through June 1, 2013, as outlined on page 9 of the 2012-2013 Undergraduate Catalog.

Parents' Feedback and Ideas

The Covenant College Parents Council exists to advance the mission of the College by cultivating productive partnerships between the parents of Covenant students and the College. The Parents Council assists the College in administering the parents program, and its members function as liaisons between parents and the administration. Please let us know if there are ways we can serve your family, your church, or your community in this mission, as well as any ideas you have about future parents e-newsletters and/or other resources we offer to parents.

Praise and Prayer Requests

Join us as we thank God for a wonderful Parents Weekend and the encouragement this was to so many students. Please pray for our students as they will be traveling all over the world during spring break. We trust the Father will protect and provide for their every need as they spend time with family and friends, and minister throughout his Kingdom. Please pray the Gospel will go forth to change hearts and lives.

Please also pray that students will return from spring break refreshed and strengthened for the remainder of the semester, as March and April are very busy months here on campus.

Lastly, please pray for our board of trustees, administration, faculty, and staff to have wisdom and discernment as they meet together March 13-15.
