Parents Weekend is Coming
Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe it is 2012 and another semester of classes has officially begun. I trust you all had a blessed Christmas with family and friends and that your new year is off to a good start. While we enjoyed the break, we are excited to have students back on campus. We had the privilege of welcoming nine new students for the spring semester, and they are busy discovering all Covenant has to offer.
Parents Weekend, February 17-19
I truly enjoy ministry to students, but I am also thankful for the opportunity to work closely with Covenant's Parents Council. We have been planning and preparing for Parents Weekend, February 17-19, and look forward to seeing many of you on campus. Hopefully you received your invitation in the mail; we have already received numerous online registrations. While you are more than welcome to come visit your students at any time, we did want to specify a weekend for you to come to campus to spend quality time with them, while still having a chance to connect with other parents, hear from faculty and staff, and participate in campus events.
There is no cost involved for the weekend, unless of course your students ask you to take them on a shopping or eating spree. While nothing is mandatory, we do ask you to register online
so that we can prepare welcome packets for each of you, as well as have accurate counts for the Friday afternoon Q&A, the fireside chat, and the Saturday morning brunch. Please also note there will be a brunch for siblings on Saturday morning with several members of our admissions staff. Our prayer is that families will be encouraged and refreshed by their time together and the resources we will have available. For more information or to register by February 10, please visit the Parents Weekend webpage.
Thank you for the privilege of partnering with you as we seek to serve you and your children. Please continue to let us know how we can assist you, and remember to check out the various resources we have available for parents.

Partnering with the Center for Calling & Career
The start to our 2011-2012 academic year has been marked by partnerships. We have been greatly encouraged by faculty, alumni, churches, parents of Covenant students and alumni, and employers that have grown to value the Covenant alumni in their organizations. These partners have extended our ability to effectively assist both students and alumni as they seek to identify and boldly pursue their callings.
Recently, we had the pleasure of meeting with the president of a large Chattanooga company. A parent of a Covenant alum himself, he already sees the value in Covenant College. Beyond nostalgia, however, he mentioned several alumni by name and specifically pointed out their contributions to the organization he leads. The recurring theme of his comments: Covenant alumni seem to care more about integrity, work ethic, and relationships than does the average employee. Add that to the depth of knowledge in their content areas and their superior ability to analyze critically, problem-solve, and communicate, and this organization continues to actively seek Covenant students for internships and alumni for permanent positions.
While that is just one example of many, we want to invite you to partner with the Center for Calling & Career. There are many ways you can assist our efforts:
-
Referrals of internship and job opportunities and a willingness to connect us to your personal networks to expand our effectiveness
-
A willingness to talk with current students about your career path and how you’ve seen God’s grace at work in your life
-
A commitment to pray that our efforts will be effective as we encourage students to pursue their callings in light of the Gospel
Covenant College is blessed by the families that actively support its mission. Thank you for your support of this institution; we covet your continual prayers, and look forward to hearing from you.
